Injustices

from recent news:

A woman was imprisioned for 12 years for cow-slaughter. The evidence - some beef sukuti. She claims she bought the sukuti in China. And even if she did slaughter the cow, how can you equate 12 years of human life with one of a cow (whose life span probably isn't 12)? Animal rights and traditions are all cool, but at what expense?

A five year old boy has never seen light outside a prision. He was born inside it. His mother was accused of murdering a neighbor (and the accusation didn't sound as convincing, but let's leave that). Do we have no provisions to take care of children born in prisions, or to take care of dependents whose parent (or adult) is imprisioned?
